The designated national authorities (DNAs) responsible for the CDM in about 90 countries met in Bonn this weekend for two days of information exchange and discussions. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, such as the opportunities in the CDM for micro financing, monitoring for sustainable development, and regional and sub-regional distribution of CDM project activities.
Monday will see the start in Bonn of the Joint Coordination Workshop on the CDM, which will bring together about 210 participants representing all facets of the CDM regulatory structure, including among others the CDM Executive Board, its panels and working groups; representatives of the designated operational entities, the third-party certifiers accredited to serve as the extended arm of the Board; and members of the registration and issuance team, the roster of experts who contribute to the vetting of projects. These, the 7th DNA Forum and 6th CDM Joint Workshop, are the first such meetings since the international climate change negotiations in Poznan in December of last year. As such, a key focus of discussions is aimed at increasing a common understanding of technical issues and at suggesting improvements to the current operations of the CDM.
